& Counseling Services
At Biltmore Psychology and Counseling we believe that personal growth and development is a lifelong journey. While some days we may have the tools we need to navigate life’s complexities, dark days can necessitate growth and change.
Our psychologists and counselors journey with people through the joys of life as well as the tragedies, providing expert guidance, compassion and support along the way. We firmly believe that counseling is not for the “sick” or “unstable,” but a resource for people at every stage of life. We all are in need of support, and our psychologists and counselors know exactly what it’s like to struggle and refuse to give up hope.
How Does it Work?
Counseling at BPC is not a passive process, though we try to offer comfortable chairs. Clients and therapists work together to set positive, practical goals to overcome difficult emotions and circumstances. Our therapists support clients with new skills so that clients can independently continue to pursue life-long growth and transformation. During our sessions, the goal is to help people learn about themselves, recover from painful experiences, and find the best solutions to their frustrations. But with that said, our treatment plans are never a “one-size-fits-all.” Instead, they are individually tailored to help individuals overcome the most complicated, challenging, or confusing of circumstances.
Who Are Our Clients?
Individual Counseling clients are hard working, tenacious individuals who expect a lot of themselves and expect a lot out of counseling as well. They are motivated to overcome the small frustrations in their life and make a change in the areas that may no longer feel bearable. Whether someone is experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, or self doubt our clients refuse to be complacent and refuse to accept that they will feel this way forever.

Individual Counseling FAQ
Individual therapy and counseling is a one-on-one process in which a client meets with a licensed therapist or counselor to explore personal concerns in a confidential and supportive setting. It provides a space to better understand emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and life experiences, while working toward meaningful personal goals.
Individual therapy can help with concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, and personal growth. Sessions are tailored to each person’s needs and may draw from evidence-based therapeutic approaches. The focus is on emotional well-being, personal growth, self-understanding, and developing healthier ways of coping and relating to oneself and others.
Individual counseling and therapy can benefit anyone who wants support in understanding themselves more deeply or navigating personal challenges. People often seek individual therapy during times of stress, emotional difficulty, life transitions, or when they want to improve their overall well-being.
Individual therapy may be helpful for concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, work or academic stress, identity questions, or personal growth. It is also beneficial for those who may not be experiencing a crisis but want a confidential space to reflect, gain insight, and develop healthier coping strategies. Therapy is tailored to each person’s needs and goals and is grounded in evidence-based, professional care.
Individual therapy uses a variety of evidence-based techniques and therapeutic approaches tailored to each person’s needs, goals, and concerns. Therapists may draw from one or more modalities to support emotional well-being, insight, and personal growth. The specific techniques used are guided by the client’s preferences, the nature of the concerns being addressed, and professional best practices. Therapy is collaborative and flexible, allowing the counselor and client to work together toward meaningful and sustainable change.
Clinicians at Biltmore Counseling are trained and experienced in the following therapeutic approaches:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM)
- Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR – Brainspotting)
- Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)
- Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
And many, many more. If there is an approach or modality you’re specifically interested in, please let us know when you get in touch to make an appointment!
The length of therapy varies depending on each person’s needs, goals, and the concerns being addressed. Some people find that short-term therapy, lasting a few weeks or months, is helpful for working through a specific issue or life transition. Others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns, support ongoing growth, or navigate more complex challenges.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and progress is reviewed regularly. Clients and therapists work together to determine the pace and duration of counseling, and therapy can be adjusted or concluded when goals are met or needs change. There is no set timeline—therapy lasts as long as it remains helpful and meaningful for you.
Your first therapy session is an opportunity to get to know your therapist and begin discussing what brings you to counseling. The therapist will ask questions about your concerns, goals, and background to better understand your needs. You’ll also have time to ask questions and share what you’re hoping to gain from therapy.
The first session focuses on creating a comfortable, supportive environment and laying a foundation for future work. There is no pressure to share more than you are ready to. Together, you and your therapist will begin identifying goals and discussing next steps, including how therapy may be structured moving forward.
