Our Therapeutic Approaches

At Biltmore Psychology and Counseling, we draw on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and tailor each one to your goals, your history, and the way you heal best. From trauma-focused methods to skills-based and growth-oriented work, our clinicians select and combine modalities to create a plan that fits you, not the other way around.

Therapeutic Modalities We Offer

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a proven approach for those struggling with PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and related symptoms. It helps you heal from past experiences and build coping skills so the past stays where it belongs, behind you.

CBT is one of the most researched and effective treatments for anxiety and depression. It works on the premise that much of our distress comes from unhelpful thinking patterns, and helps you change how you think and behave to find lasting relief.

Brainspotting goes beyond traditional talk therapy by tapping into the brain-body connection to access and process unresolved trauma. By focusing on specific eye positions, it helps release deep-seated emotions and supports lasting healing.

ACT is an action-oriented approach that helps you stop waiting for the perfect feeling and start living a meaningful life now. It teaches you to change your relationship with difficult thoughts so they no longer hold you back from what matters most.

MSC combines the skills of mindfulness with the warmth of self-compassion to transform a harsh inner critic into an inner ally. It is not about letting yourself off the hook, but about building the internal support you need to meet challenges with resilience.

CRM is a trauma treatment model that puts internal safety above all else. By building a scaffolding of resources within your nervous system, it lets you process the hardest parts of your history without becoming re-traumatized or emotionally flooded.

Developed by Dr. Frank Corrigan, DBR is a neuro-physiological approach that targets the brainstem, where trauma responses first take hold. Because it works so deep in the brain, it is often gentler than other methods, making it well suited to complex trauma.

DBT helps you navigate intense emotions by balancing acceptance and change. Through skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and relationships, it gives you a practical toolkit for moving through life’s emotional storms with greater stability.

When words feel out of reach, art therapy offers a creative pathway to healing. In a safe, supportive space, you use the creative process to explore emotions, ease anxiety, and understand yourself more deeply, no artistic experience required.

Positive psychology focuses on what makes life worth living, not just reducing distress. Grounded in the PERMA+ model, it helps you bridge the gap between functioning and flourishing by building meaning, engagement, and joy.

Therapeutic Modalities FAQ

A therapeutic modality is simply a method or framework a therapist uses to help you change and heal. Different modalities target different things: some focus on processing trauma, others on shifting thought patterns, building skills, or fostering growth. Your therapist chooses the approach, or blend of approaches, that best fits your needs.

During your first sessions, your therapist gets to know your history, your goals, and how you tend to respond. From there, they recommend the modality or combination of modalities most likely to help. The plan stays flexible and can be adjusted as you make progress.

Yes. Many of our clinicians integrate several approaches, for example pairing a trauma method like EMDR with skills from CBT or DBT. Combining modalities lets your therapist address both the immediate concern and the deeper patterns underneath it.

No. You do not need a formal diagnosis or a referral to start therapy with us. You can reach out directly and schedule a free consultation to talk through what you are looking for and which approach might be the right fit.
